The African continent and its people are in a process of rediscovery and re-awakening, leveraging the strengths and values of its philosophies and richness of its culture. Concurrent with this collective awareness, a need for African-centered psychology that responds relevantly to the needs of African communities has grown exponentially. In this respect, psychology professionals need to redefine psychology and the role that they play in order to play a critical role in national and policy development. Such a psychology requires the development of strong and culturally informed theoretical and conceptual frameworks.
